Upon reflection …
… I enjoyed my visit to consibrough Castle …
I was watching the musical “My Fair Lady” while doing the ironing on the weekend, although the rain in Spain stayed mainly on the plane, we weren’t quite so lucky in Lille.
I can’t complain too much though, I think we only had one real downpour on Friday evening, and on Saturday it was nice enough for us to seek out one of the most popular parks with a bit of a treat for the camera.
On Friday, the buildings in the square even looked pretty in the drizzle.
I kept an eye out for some nicely placed puddles to catch the buildings in them but the square was very well paved and the puddles were nowhere to be seen.
You can see the Old Stock Exchange building in the second picture. This is the opposite side from the side shown in the post “Lille” with the saxophone player. The courtyard inside the buildings is just as picturesque, especially when you think of it full of book-sellers and chess players in the summer.
There was just one pair playing draughts and a good number of the bookstalls were covered up against the weather but one stall had his pictures individually wrapped in polythene for protection against the weather so they were still out on show, the glass like paving mirroring their shapes in the reflection as these two girls took a closer look.
Like to see more of “Lille” ?
No chance of any real sunshine today so I took the sunflower out in search of a little liquid sunshine instead. At a penny a smile it must be well on the way to paying for itself by now.
I stopped at the perfect spot where I found the “Umbrella puddle” for the orange umbrella …
I set off to see how many smiles I could find, and it wasn’t long before I found this one …
I stopped to take a picture of a couple of other umbrellas which always manage to make me smile …
After forcing myself to drink a medium, skinny, de-caf latte (my arm was twisted right up behind my back to do this) I stopped again outside to catch my reflection in the red window (much to the amusement of my curious on-looker) before my soggy feet squished their way back home again.
Looking out of the window before I left work this morning I was greeted by a thick fog and was almost tempted to stay an extra half hour or so for it to be light enough to take a couple of fog photos on the way home … No chance … the half hour was mine not theirs so I set off home with possible intentions of venturing back out once daylight had appeared. Again no chance … I fell asleep on the settee and the thought of getting wrapped up and going back out into the cold lasted for less than a second so here are a few more of the fog photos I took on the Sunday morning on our Medway weekend …
This line of boats faded into the distance …
The building you can just about make out in the background is the hotel we were staying at …
And as the fog started to lift slightly you can see the tops of these two tall buildings, earlier they only looked as high as two story-houses.
