I have a yearning for the sea,
The sand, the salty air.
The breeze that blows around your head
And messes up your hair.
The seagulls screeching loudly
as they’re coming in to land.
The ones who swoop right at you
Stealing doughnuts from your hand.
The shops all full of coloured toys
Of yellows reds and blues
The postcards showing naughty jokes
And pretty scenes and views.
The sunny stroll along the prom
Where deckchairs line the route
The couples walking hand in hand
The old and young, so cute.
I long to see the harbour
With fishing boats and nets
The fish and chips in newspaper
The sunshine as it sets.
The waves a splashing on the rocks
The seaweed on the beach
The driftwood floating on the tide
Tempting, out of reach.
The pebbles crunching underfoot
The fossils there to find
The icecream. Oh the icecream
Is forefront in my mind.
I need to take some time off work
I have? what’s that you say?
A weekend at the seaside
Is not that far away.
Great poem
Thanks, and thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. 🙂
I like the words – great stuff! – and very well put – I grew up by the sea – and the two photos of My Favourite Friends, well aren’t they just darlings? Thanks for a great post, Hallysann! A 🙂
Glad you like it, the seaside has been calling for a while now. Hot holidays abroad are fun, but they still can’t beat a good British seaside breeze. 🙂
The British seaside breeze – I absolutely agree! 🙂
Great post, I really enjoyed reading it, and the pictures of the gulls are lovely.
Thanks, the seagulls are from two different seasides, Weymouth, and Lyme Regis. 🙂
I love it! Being a coastal child myself, I can appreciate all of this in its perfectly captured loveliness, both words and pictures!
xoxo,
Kathryn
Thank you, I grew up next to the sea too and I find I appreciate the seaside a lot more now that it’s not a quick stroll away.
The dream to move nearer seems more possible as each year moves on. it’s still a while away yet, but I can see the beach at the end of the tunnel. 😀
If that doesn’t conjure up a perfect image, I don’t know what does! 😀 Here’s to finding our way back to the coast, over and over again.
xo
I hope your happy wish did come true
To the seaside for an ice cream or two
Hopefully Mr Seagull didn’t plop on your shoe
As he swooped down from the sky so blue…
😉 😀 😛 😀 😉
The weekend came and went so fast
With castles, mists and boats
The weather did us proud at last
We had no need of coats
Every minute was enjoyed
With the warm and salty air.
And so I rushed straight back to work
With the seaside in my hair.
